• With over 47 years of experience, he played a crucial role in establishing one of the earliest Surgical Gastroenterology departments in India.

• His educational qualifications include an MBBS from HP University, Shimla, 1977, and an MS (General Surgery) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, 1981.
• He also received a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Edinburgh, and a World Health Organisation Fellowship from the University of California Los Angeles, USA, in 1999.
