Dr. Suresh H. Advani is an eminent Medical oncologist in Mumbai. He brings over 55 years of clinical professional experience and is credited as the pioneer of Bone Marrow Transplantation in India. Dr. Suresh Advani has received prestigious accolades such as the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Dhanvantari accolade for his outstanding contributions to medicine and oncology. He holds the distinction of being the first oncologist in India to perform a bone marrow transplant successfully. Dr. Advani focuses on the management of cancers of the breast, blood, head & neck, cervix, lungs, colon, prostate, and stomach. He completed his MBBS from Grand Medical Coll. & Sir J.J Group of Hospitals, Mumbai, in 1969, followed by an MD in General Medicine from the Bombay Univ., Mumbai, in 1973. Later, he gained specialization in bone marrow transplantation from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA. Dr. Advani's other qualifications include a Fellowship of the Indian Coll. of Pathologists (FICP) in 1992, a part of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS) in 1995, and a Fellowship of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (FNAMS) in 1996. His research contributions include approximately 648 national and international publications. Dr. Advani was pivotal in establishing the DM (Medical Oncology) program at Tata Memorial Hosp.. He serves as a guide for M.Sc. and PhD students in Applied Biology. As Chief Investigator, he has led projects on leukemia supported by prestigious institutions like the National Cancer Inst. and the Department of Science and Technology. Dr. Advani is actively involved in developing the DM (Medical Oncology) Course curriculum in collaboration with the Indian Medical and Pediatric Oncology Association. He is focused on breast cancer and is leading initiatives such as mobile mammography projects for early diagnosis and multinational clinical trials. He has significantly contributed to biological therapeutics targeting molecular targets on cancer cells.
