(Lt. Gen.) Dr. CS Narayanan is a well?recognized Neurologist with more than 44 years of professional experience. His field of specialization in treatment and management includes Epilepsy (including video EEG monitoring), Migraine and other headache disorders, Parkinson's disease, Stroke (including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy), Multiple Sclerosis, and other auto-immune disorders, Peripheral Neuropathy (including NCV and EMG), Spondylitis and other spinal cord disorders, etc. His educational qualifications include an MBBS from Armed Forces Medical Coll., Pune, 1980; MD (Medicine) from Armed Forces Medical Coll., Pune, 1988; DM (Neurology) from All India Inst. of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, 1998. He served in leading Clinical Services, Teaching, and Research in Neurology for 20 years in the Armed Forces' largest tertiary care centers. Dr. Narayanan attained the rank of Lt Gen, the highest rank for a medical professional in the Armed Forces, and held the position of Dy Chief Integrated Defence Staff. He held key appointments as Maj Gen, including Dy Commandant and Dean (Academics) at Army Hosp. (Research and Referral) He is a three times recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service by the Honorable President of India (2009, 2014, and 2015) He served as Senior Consultant (Medicine), overseeing the professional care of specialists and super-specialists in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). Dr. Narayanan contributed to establishing robust neurology subspecialty programs, including acute stroke care services, epilepsy surgery, and advanced immuno-modulatory therapies for Multiple Sclerosis. He has extensive professional experience in administering botulinum toxin for various Movement Disorders. He was part of the team that performed the first deep brain stimulation procedure in the Armed Forces in 2000. Proficient as a Professor of Neurology, he has served as a teacher, research guide, and examiner for MD (Medicine) and DNB (Neurology) students for more than 15 years. He was appointed Honorary Surgeon to India's President on 25th July 2017. He presented a report on implementing Telemedicine to soldiers in remote combat posts of the Armed Forces to Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherji, Hon'ble President of India, on 7th April 2017. He collaborated with industry leaders to deploy eHealth and Artificial intelligence in the AFMS. He is a part of the Indian Academy of Neurology, Neurological Society of India, Delhi Neurological Association, Indian Epilepsy Association, Movement Disorders Society of India, Association of Physicians of India, and Editorial Board of the Medical Journal of Armed Forces of India. He is also a part of several task forces in Neurology at the Indian Council of Medical Research, an Assessor at the Medical Council of India and the National Board of Examinations (NBE), and a chairperson of the Armed Forces Ethical Committee.
